produced by Amanda Hislop and directed by Ralph Wigg
A Bunch of Amateurs was well received by audiences. Directing a play written for TV must have presented the director with several problems, not least being how to stage it. I think his solution of the barn, with the use of the curtains and efficient stage hands, worked well. Inevitably, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman exposed West Chiltington to some colourful language, which it took in its stride. Full use of the hall and front of stage was made with the inclusion of typical journalists. All in all a courageous production, thrusting West Chiltington into the 21st century, and proving an evening of hilarious entertainment. (adapted from a review by Betsy Rimmer)
